Diploma of Credit Management is designed for people who wish to manage a credit department or be promoted into a credit management role.

Credit Managers are responsible for overseeing the credit granting process for an organisation. In this course you will learn how to optimise sales and reduce bad debt losses by maintaining the credit policy. You will also cover topics such as; assessing the creditworthiness of potential customers, conducting review of credit files, managing the credit relationship and working with insolvency situations.

This qualification is relevant to credit professionals who work in either consumer or commercial credit in a variety of workplaces:

  • Financial institutions such as a bank or credit union
  • Within a business which offers commercial credit to customers
  • Organisations offering a factoring and/or invoice discounting facility

Entry Requirements

(A) Preliminary Certificate in Credit Management of SLICM Or
(B) 3 Passes in GCE A/L or O/L with industry experience Or
(C) CBF of IBSL* Or
(D) DBF of IBSL* Or
(E) Completion of Certificate in Marketing Credit Instruments of SLICM*/ Diploma in Micro Credit Management of SLICM*

Yes, SLICM is the only professional body enacted by an Act of Parliament to offer education in Credit Management. Yes, if you already have any finance or credit management related qualifications at an equivalent or higher level, you can apply for an exemption. Exemptions are granted on a subject-for-subject basis.
It can take up to five weeks to mark, moderate and process your answer scripts from the date they are received by SLICM.
You can answer the examination paper in Sinhala, Tamil or English. The paper will be available in all three languages.

The candidates who have completed the following qualifications can claim for Subject (Module) exemptions from Diploma in Credit Management as stated below.

1. Executive Certificate in Marketing Credit Instruments of SLICM

(a) Business Communication and Management

(b) Credit Operations and Marketing

2. Certificate in Micro Credit Management of SLICM

(a) Business Communication and Management

(b) Credit Evaluation and Recoveries

3. Certificate in Business and Finance of IBSL

(a) Business Communication and Management

4. Diploma in Business and Finance of IBSL

(a) Business Communication and Management

5. Diploma in Business and Finance of IBSL with Business Lending

(a) All three modules are exempted

6. Diploma in Credit Management of IBSL

(a) All three modules are exempted

7. BSc. Degree or MBA

(a) Business Communication and Management

8. LLB Degree

(a) Business Communication and Management
